Philosophy

The Law Offices of William E. Maguire specialize in Trademark, Copyright and Licensing, plus Arbitration and Mediation services with respect to intellectual property and related entertainment industry disputes. The firm represents a limited number of clients, which allows more time and personal attention to each matter, in an effort to obtain the best result possible. By design, we represent a range of issues from ordinary to more difficult and complex matters that other attorneys will or cannot handle.


About William E. Maguire

William E. Maguire has been a member of the California bar since 1981, has an LL.M degree in Intellectual Property, and was previously Senior Counsel for Malibu Comics Entertainment, Inc., a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc. He has also represented the Baywatch Production Company, Platinum Studios, Film Roman, Starz Media, Buddy Guy's Legends, the Estates of Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, as well as numerous action sport and apparel brands such as Third Rail, Dogtown, Obey Giant, Lost, Grenade, Missionsix, Girls Rule, Tribal Streetwear, Choice Snowboards, and Adrenaline Snowgear.

William E. Maguire also speaks and publishes frequently. He has spoken for the L.A. County Bar Assn., the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers Assn. (LIMA), the L.A. Intellectual Property Law Assn. (LAIPLA), at trade shows such as Action Sports Retailer (ASR) and for community organizations. He is widely published on the topics of trademarks, copyrights and licensing. His articles have appeared and been published by the State Bar of California, the International Trademark Association (INTA), the L.A. Daily Journal, at trade shows as well as many other publications.

William E. Maguire is active in the community and has volunteered his time as both a tutor and mentor at the Neighborhood Youth Assn. (NYA), www.nyayouth.org, in Mar Vista, California since 2000. He was also a volunteer tutor at the Gwen Bolden Youth Foundation (gbyf.org) in Leimert Park in the Crenshaw District, for several years. Through his own charitable service organization, LevelPath.org, Mr. Maguire provides funding and scholarships for needy and at risk youth.

His private practice is located in Santa Monica where he concentrates on trademark, copyright and licensing matters, and represents clients in the entertainment, publishing, multimedia, garment, sporting goods, snowboard, cosmetics and restaurant industries.
